If you want more enquiries, keep your enquiry forms simple!

Posted by Danny Bermant - 26 Mar 2012

Do you have an enquiry form on your website? Here is a tip to help you increase the number of enquiries...keep it simple!

I am amazed by the number of websites that have complicated forms with lots of compulsory fields: your address, what time would you like an appointment, how would you like us to contact you...etc. The longer the form, the less likely it is that visitors will bother filling it in.

All that really matters are three things:

  1. A  name
  2. An email address
  3. A phone number

As long as you have some basic contact details, you can call / email the client back and get all the other information you need.

Why your website should always include a call to action

When you launch your new website, have you ever thought about its purpose? What do you want to get out of it? What do you want visitors to do? I often get clients telling me: “We don’t use our website for getting business, it’s just an online brochure”. But it doesn’t matter whether you do or don’t rely on your website for new business. It’s still a vital tool for engaging with your customers. Your website should always have a call to action.

Why you should consider a UI expert when designing your website

You know your website is overdue for a redesign. The design looks tired, the fonts are old fashioned, and the images are unsuitable. So you think a new design is going to get punters flocking to your site? Wrong.

When companies decide to have a website redesign, they often view it as a simple equation:

1. Get an eye catching design
2. Pay someone to get more traffic to my website

Result = lots of sales

If you think it’s this simple, you’re in for a big disappointment.

How user friendly is your website?

When you’re having your website designed, have you ever asked yourself the following questions:

  1. What do I want to achieve from my website? Do I want more subscribers? More sales? More enquiries?
  2. Have I set any targets for achieving these goals? E.g. 25% of new business enquiries should come from my website.
  3. How will I measure my goals?
The sad truth is, most website owners I come across don’t have answers to any of the above questions. They know they would like more enquiries through their website but have little idea how to go about it. Few website owners even know how to access their web statistics.

A website is more than just an online brochure, it’s a vital sales tool that works around the clock, advertising your business. If you do the following preparatory work before your website is designed, it will go a long way towards ensuring a successful outcome.

How a home page slideshow can improve the conversion rate of your website

As broadband speeds get ever faster, people also expect to find what they are looking for quickly. This not only means having a fast loading website, but it also means your visitors need to find the information they are looking for straight away. Your home page is your "shop window" and you only have a few seconds to convince potential customers before they visit your competitors. Few visitors will bother scrolling below the fold of the page to find out more about you. So how do you sell your business in 15 seconds when all you have is a 1024 x 768 screen?

The answer is a home page slideshow. This displays a sequence of fading images, each of which contains a description. Each slide illustrates a different element of your business and includes a link to the relevant page on your site.

Reducing the page loading times on your website will help your Google ranking

Posted by Danny Bermant - 19 Apr 2010

It was recently reported that Google has started ranking webpages by the speed with which they load.

With this in mind, we have just added a speed tool to our Content Management System so that external javascripts and css files get compressed and merged into just a couple of files. Overall, it reduces the number of requests on a web page by 4 and reduces the overall page size by around 20k. Not a huge difference you may think, but it could be enough to aid your search engine ranking. More importantly, a second or two improvement in the page loading speed could mean the difference between visitors seeing your home page and visitors giving up and going elsewhere.

We can now offer you a heat map of your website

Posted by Danny Bermant - 05 Feb 2010
Would you like to see where your clients are clicking when they visit your website?

We are now able to offer our clients a visual heat map of clicks on key web pages, showing hot and cold click zones. This will help you to identify where to place key content when designing your site.

The heat maps take only minutes to set-up, and once your website has been tested, we will talk you through each page of results to explain what they mean.

If you're building an e-commerce site, make sure you invest in usability testing

It never ceases to amaze me how many of the high street retailers invest hundreds of thousands or even millions of pounds on e-commerce sites that don't work properly.

When businesses go to the trouble of building a website, how many of them pay attention to how quickly the pages load? They should do.
